‘The Amazing Spider Man 2’[SPOILERS] - Still More Villain Clues! Will Spider Man Have Allies?

While 'The Amazing Spider Man 2' has two confirmed villains, the viral website that Sony uses for its promotion continues to churn out more clues.

Most characters in the Spider Man universe are introduced as regular people who turn into villains/heroes due to an unexpected circumstance or accident. Some examples of these villains who made it to the big screen (via the old 'Spider Man' trilogy) are Doctor Octopus, Sandman and Venom.

Thus, when the reports on The Daily Bugle tumblr (a site that mimics the fictional newspaper which Peter Parker works for) posts news stories, the names sound familiar. In their latest report, references to some known villains are made.

The full post from The Daily Bugle tumblr:

"Cold Blooded Killer? By Ned Leeds, City Bureau.

A trial date has been set in the New York Appellate Court for alleged bio-terrorist Dr. Curt Connors. The former Oscorp biogenetics scientist has been indicted on twenty city and state counts, including trespassing, malicious destruction of property, theft of private property, aggravated assault, and using a weapon of mass destruction. Connors has pleaded 'not guilty' to all counts. It is expected his defense attorney, Anne Weying, will claim Connors was not responsible for the actions of his genetically transformed alter ego, the Lizard.

Connors claimed that pressure placed on him by his employer, Oscorp, led him to rush his bio-restorative formula and test it on himself. He further stipulated to the grand jury that his decision to use the untested compound was made in an effort to protect the company from experimenting on innocent civilians, as directed by his superiors. Connors' immediate supervisor at Oscorp, Dr. Rajit Ratha, has been missing since the day before the Lizard's attack.

Oscorp spokesman, Donald Menken, responded, 'We can't corroborate or deny Dr. Connor's claims. Dr. Ratha's abrupt departure from Oscorp has left us with far more questions than answers. Needless to say, Oscorp has always complied with the most stringent local, state and federal regulations for all of our research and development.'"

The reporter on the byline, Ned Leeds, eventually became the Hobgoblin in the comics. The defense attorney mentioned, Anne Weying, is the alter ego of a current character, She-Venom. Comicbook.com  has mentioned that there is the possibility that the characters will be introduced as regular people, and Sony may choose to develop the story for them to become villains, or not.

The Daily Bugle tumblr, after all, is a teaser website and they know that fanboys are hanging on every word. It will produce additional hype, but the site offers no assurance that the characters they mention will actually appear in the movie or its sequels.

The increasing number of villains has led people to believe that Spider Man will also have allies. It is speculated that 'The Amazing Spider Man 3' or 4 will be Sony's answer to the 'Avengers' super team. In the comics, Spider Man was never officially part of a super team (other than honorary membership) but he has teamed up with other heroes to battle powerful villains and villain teams (like the Sinister Six). So far, none of the Bugle posts have mentioned any known superhero alter egos.
