According to Entertainment Weekly, the trailer, which runs just over two minutes, features the return of almost every X-Men actor from the previous film. This includes Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Storm (Halle Berry), Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), Iceman (Shawn Ashmore), Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page), Rogue (Anna Paquin), and Magneto (Ian McKellan).

When the trailer flashes to the past, we see James McAvoy playing a much younger Professor X. Michael Fassbender is back as young Erik Lehnsherr, the man who will be Magneto, Entertainment Weekly reports.

Time travel is at the heart of the plot of "X-Men: Days Of Future Past," which is loosely based on a popular storyline of the same name by writer Chris Claremont and artist John Byrne, The New York Daily News reports.

The trailer also shows brief glimpses of some of the new X-additions, including fan favorites Warpath (Booboo Stewart) and Bishop (Omar Sy).

An interesting note: "X-Men: Days of Future Past" marks the seventh time Hugh Jackman, 45, has played Wolverine, which is a genre record, according to The New York Daily News.

"I love this character, and I never take for granted the opportunity I have to play what I think is one of the cooler, more interesting, multi-layered comic book characters, particularly with this one I have wanted to do the story," Jackman told the News in the summer.

"At some point my body will give up, but right now I'm enjoying it more than ever."

The latest installment in the superhero film franchise "X-Men: Days Of Future Past"  hits theaters on May 23, 2014.
