Los Angeles Lakers News – Kobe Bryant Receives $24Million Paycheck Today; Warriors Coach Thought Kobe Was Indestructible

November 1 is a good day to be Kobe Bryant's BFF(Best Friend Forever).

Kobe Bryant is the highest paid player in the NBA today. His salary for the entire season is $30,453,805.

While most players are given their annual salary in equal monthly installments, Kobe is not like most players and he certainly will not act like one. As stipulated in the rules of the league, players can get a maximum of 80% of their annual salary in advance.

That's precisely what Kobe will get. He specified that in his contract, and he will take the cash home today (November 1). As reported by the LA Times, the exact amount is $24,363,044.

The other 20% ($6.1 million) will be paid out in equal monthly installments. His current contract will expire on June 30. He can negotiate for a new contract that could range between $1.7million to $32.7million (the maximum for him).

The Black Mamba has a lot of time to spend that as he is currently undergoing rehabilitation for a torn Achilles tendon. He was injured in a game against the Golden State Warriors last April 12.

Warriors coach Mark Jackson, a former player and analyst, recalls that game. He was always an admirer of Kobe Bryant for his skills and his spirit as a competitor.

In an interview with Yahoo Sports, he thought Kobe was indestructible. He is used to seeing Kobe get hurt, walk it off, then attack them full throttle in the next play. When Bryant was unable to get up from an unforced stumble in their game, Jackson reasonably thought it was a strategy to throw them off.

"Even in the midst of going against him I'm in huddle I'm saying, 'Don't fall for the okeydoke. He's all right. Don't allow him to take over this game,' not knowing that he was really hurt. That's one regret I have. If had to do it again I would have called a timeout and allowed him to walk off the floor."

He would've reacted differently if he had known: "If I would've known Kobe Bryant was hurt I would've called a timeout. They would have not had to call a timeout. That's how much respect I have for him."

"I thought it was important to let him know that. Typical Kobe. He said thank you, appreciate it and he's coming at us next time he sees us. But I feel the same way. It's mutual respect and appreciation for one of the best to do it."
