Niall Horan announced the Big News on Twitter, along with an Instagram picture in which he is posing cozily with the Roar singer Katy Perry. The magazines that were quick to announce the engagement include Entertainment Wise, soFeminine, Reveal, SugarScape and Irish Independent.

However, as it turned out eventually, the engagement news was a hoax. While a section of fans re-tweeted the post, along with heartfelt congratulations, others could see right through the prank.

In one of the pictures tweeted by One Direction, the lass Katy Perry is posing with One Direction members along with her boyfriend John Meyer. The presence of John Meyer did not go unnoticed by Directioners, especially the damsels who have a big crush on Niall Horan.

People were quick to point out that Niall maintained dignified distance from Perry when Meyer was in picture. However, in one of the images doing the rounds, the blonde One Direction pin-up is kissing Katy Perry. Earlier this month, Niall had tweet-proposed Katy. That he has a crush on Katy is a common knowledge.

Though there has been no official announcement by either of the parties involved (Niall Horan, Katy Perry, John Meyer or One Direction), fans and audiences are pretty sure that it was a prank.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Katy Perry revealed that she and boyfriend John Meyer had a long courtship before they made their relationship public.

"I want to have a normal life with a normal relationship and I don't want to be forced to just hang out in a hotel room all the time," declared Katy, who was once married to Russell Brand. She also said that her relationship with Meyer is the inspiration for the 'Legendary Lovers' track from her newly released album 'Prism.'
