Fifty Shades Of Grey Movie Release Date Postponed: Universal Pictures Has Announced That The Erotica Film Would Be Hitting Theaters On Valentine’s Day 2015

Universal Pictures announced on Wednesday that Fifty Shades of Grey movie release date has been moved until Valentine's day of 2015. Following the delay of its production which now scheduled on December, the company has postponed the original schedule of release date of the movie as well (it was set to be released on August 2014 supposedly).

The movie faced some bumps along the road when one of the major characters, sadomasochist billionaire Christian Grey, played "Sons of Anarchy" actor Charlie Hunnam, dropped out from the project. Weeks after the exit of Hunnam the production team found a replacement through Irish model/actor Jamie Dornan which caused the delay of production from November to early December.

The production was forced to postpone filming in order to provide more time for Dornan to prepare for the role, but according to Universal Pictures, the casting change was not the only reason for a new production date and a new release date as well.

The company considered the competition if it were to release Fifty Shades of Grey movie on summer (August 1, 2014). The movie adaptation based on E.L. James erotica novel was about to go up against Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy starring Chris Pratt and Benicio del Toro. In addition, the World Cup in Brazil on June to July made international movie productions move their release on August.

"We see this movie as a global event," Donna Langley chairman of Universal Pictures tells Entertainment Weekly. "The strength of this book is really worldwide, so we want to be able to take advantage of women who are invariably on vacation with their families during the month of August in Europe."

Langley revealed that even if Charlie Hunnam did not exit from the role on October they would have moved the Fifty Shades of Grey movie release date still.

"Together with the international marketing and distribution team, we've been looking really closely at the August date and becoming more and more convinced that the right thing to do for the movie was to push it," Langley explains. "So even if Charlie had stayed, we still would have been making the date change."

The movie's new release date would be competing against Nicolas Spark's movie adaptation of The Longest Ride.
