NBA Trade Rumors: Rajon Rondo Pursued By New York Knicks; Offers Iman Shumpert And Amare Stoudemire – Who Says ‘No?’

After shopping for immediate frontcourt help, the Knicks may have taken on a new perspective. Citing unnamed sources, ESPN has reported talks between the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics.

The Knicks are now shopping their only trade asset (aside from Carmelo Anthony) to the Celtics, and they will add Amare Stoudemire. Boston has stated that they are willing to take Amare Stoudemire's contract that will tie them down with $23million in salary until the end of the 2014-2015 season. This means that the Celtics plan to start over the team may take a year's delay.

That seems to be alright with the Celtics, but they require the Knicks to take on the longer contracts of Gerald Wallace and Courtney Lee which is a combined 15 million until 2016. The Knicks may be reluctant to do that.

While many franchise players like Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, and the Knicks own Carmelo Anthony are possible to opt out and become unrestricted free agents who can sign with any team, it seems apparent that none of those players will switch teams.

The 2015 free agent batch includes Kevin Love, Rajon Rondo himself and LaMarcus Aldridge. These players have a more realistic chance to consider transferring to another team than Lebron and company.

In fact, the Knicks front office are trying to find a reason to convince Carmelo Anthony to re-sign with them rather than walk away. Their main selling point is that the Knicks will be in full pursuit of Kevin Love in 2015 and they will form a forward combo that can contend for an NBA championship.

If the Knicks take back Wallace and Lee, they may have to re-think that plan since they might not have enough flexibility to make an offer for Love. However, if they have Rajon Rondo, one of the best point guards in the league, it might be a good selling point for Anthony.
