Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 Update: Massive Galaxy Device Getting Android 4.3 Jelly Bean On Jan. 2014, Enables It To Support Samsung Galaxy Gear

Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3-inch update: The huge Galaxy device will be added to the roster of Samsung-branded products that will be able to support the popular Samsung Galaxy Gear, the company’s wearable flagship, on January 2014.

Thanks to a coming update to Android 4.3, Samsung Galaxy Mega will join Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Note 2 and S4 as the range of Samsung handsets that can support the smartwatch. According to Mobile Syrup, an internal document from Rogers wireless of Canada show that the Android 4.3 update will be pushed to the 6.3-inch Galaxy Mega.

“Note: In order to be compatible, the Samsung Galaxy Mega requires a software upgrade that is expected to be available as of January 2014,” reads the internal document received by Mobile Syrup.

The Samsung Galaxy Mega is a stretched-out version of the flagship Galaxy S4. It has a front-facing camera with 1.9MP and an 8MP camera that sits on the rear toward the top. It’s 6.3-inch display has 1280 x 720 pixels and 233 ppi. It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and has 1.5GB RAM in system memory. Storage for the unit begins at 16GB with MicroSD support enabling it to have up to 64GB.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3-inch display was announced April 2013 and runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. Price for the device on a two-year contract with Sprint is at $99. According to Laptop Mag, an unlocked version of the device would set you back $469.
