Kevin Durant shedding his good boy image seems to have gone too far. A picture of him smoking hookah on his Twitter account has gone viral. He claims that his phone was hacked.
Apparently, Durant was in Denver, Colorado for a game against the Nuggets. Colorado recently legalized marijuana, effective the first of this year. The twitpic was deleted after half an hour, and Kevin Durant claims that his phone was hacked. The tweet itself was also deleted but it read:

There were some fans who reacted on Twitter, and many of them did not believe the hacking excuse. Deadspin also had a tone of skepticism on their article headline.

A Twitter war eventually erupted as his loyal teammates promptly came to his defense. Kendrick Perkins, who is always on a fighting stance, directed his anger towards Darnell Mayberry, a Thunder beat writer.

The tweet was immediately deleted, SI NBA preserved a screenshot. It read:

“If y’all didn’t know @Darnell Mayberry is a Thunder hater and a snake in the grass. Yea I said it @Darnell Mayberry #ifyoudontlikeitdosomethin”

Was that an accusation that Darnell Mayberry was the one who hacked Kevin Durant’s phone? There was no direct statement, but it was the only logical reason for this tweet. Perhaps Perkins was given advice to exercise prudence. They are public figures and a direct accusation could result in an ugly legal situation.

Other reactions suggested that Kevin Durant just own up to it. It is not an illegal act (if it was in Colorado) and he was just feeling the pressure of his “clean image.” He was probably worried about the reaction of conservative Oklahoma fans.
Durant is really taking the task of being a role model seriously.
