Superbowl 2014 Bruno Mars, Red Hot Chili Peppers Slated To Perform; LA Rock Legends Added For 'Older Viewers'

Superbowl 2014 is the biggest TV event in America. Bruno Mars has been slated as the halftime show performer, but the NFL has announced that the Red Hot Chili Peppers will also be on board to 'spice up' the event.

The LA Times has reported:  "Mars is scheduled to make the announcement that he has invited the group to appear at the big game during Fox's coverage of the New Orleans Saints - Seattle Seahawks playoff contest on Saturday, a person with knowledge of the matter said."

This year's Superbowl is scheduled in New Jersey on February 2. The reason for adding the Chili Peppers is to broaden the appeal towards an "older fanbase."

From the AV club: "While the majority of people who like the Red Hot Chili Peppers probably aren't rocking chair-ready just yet, it's worth noting that both Flea and Anthony Kiedis are 51 years old, making them absolutely eligible to receive all the discounted coffee and driving safety courses AARP membership allows. Drummer Chad Smith is 52, putting him that much closer to death and 4 p.m. dinner."

The Red Hot Chili Peppers is an American rock band that formed way back in1983, before Bruno Mars was born. RHCP is from Los Angeles, and they constantly reference that in their songs, particularly their biggest hit "Under the Bridge." Their music is described in Wikipedia as  "rock with an emphasis on funk, as well as elements from other genres such as punk rock and psychedelic rock."

The irreverent style of the Chili Peppers has made them popular even to younger generations, but most critics have noted that their best music has past. The NFL or Pepsi, he official sponsor for the in-game event is sponsored have yet to make an official announcement regarding the Chili Peppers' involvement on the halftime show.
