Steven Moffat Dominates With Doctor Who And Sherlock At 2014 National Television Awards [VIDEOS]: Matt Smith And Benedict Cumberbatch Win Over Downton Abbey, Call The Midwife, And Broadchurch!

Steven Moffat is starting 2014 with a bang at the 2014 National Television Awards, with both "Sherlock" and "Doctor Who" picking up awards.

Both Moffat and "Doctor Who" actress Jenna Coleman were present at the National Television Awards.

According to Doctor Who TV, former "Doctor Who" actor Matt Smith won Best Drama Performance over Miranda Hart ("Call the Midwife"), Martin Clunes ("Doc Martin"), and Maggie Smith ("Downton Abbey").

Unfortunately, Matt Smith could not attend the Award, so Steven Moffat and Jenna Coleman accepted it on his behalf.

Check out the video below where the "Doctor Who" team made a splash:

Later, Matt Smith recorded a special video in response to the National Television Award.

"Thank you for this wonderful, marvelous award," raved Matt Smith. "I'm sorry I can't be there in person. I would've, but I'm doing a play."

"Doctor Who" also picked up the Best Drama award over "Broadchurch," "Downton Abbey," and "Call the Midwife."

Meanwhile, Benedict Cumberbatch took the award for Best TV Detective (yes that's a thing), naturally, for "Sherlock."

Without question, the 2014 National Television Awards was a great night for Steven Moffat, "Doctor Who," and "Sherlock."

Currently, "Doctor Who" is filming for season 8 featuring Peter Capaldi, and "Sherlock" just finished airing season 3 on BBC.
