Miley Cyrus Returns to the Scene of the VMAs 2013 Performance to Strip Down Again for MTV's Unplugged; This Time It's the Music That's Stripped, We Think; Miley's Surprised Us Before

Miley Cyrus is set to return to the MTV stage where she conquored the world with her VMAs 2013 performance. But this time, Miley Cyrus' music will be stripped down, not the singer. Or maybe Miley will strip down. Maybe Cyrus will light a joint on stage. Miley Cyrus is stripping it down for her next MTV appearance, musically, but she's been known to surprise us.

Miley Cyrus, who is best known for making jaws drop at the VMAs 2013 performance, is getting up close and personal. Miley Cyrus will perform older songs, tunes from her current CD 'Bangerz' and some covers on the trademark, stripped-down MTV format. Miley Cyrus' "Unplugged" episode will air Jan. 29.

In a news release, MTV's executive Vice President of music and talent programming strategy, Amy Doyle, said "Miley's vision for the performance is like nothing we've ever seen. I can say that this will easily be one of the most memorable 'Unplugged' performances to date."

Interesting things always happen when Miley Cyrus teams up with MTV. At the European Awards, Miley lit up a joint onstage. At the VMAs back in 2013, Cyrus threw it all down and just went for it. Now that Miley Cyrus is about to head out on a 38-city tour, Cyrus promises "a more intimate side" during her Jan. 29 unplugged special that should add to the myth she created at the Miley Cyrus VMAs 2013 performance.

The Hollywood Reporter learned that Miley Cyrus: MTV Unplugged, will air Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 9 p.m. EST/PST. The show promises a different side than Miley Cyrus showed at the VMAs 2013 performance. And she showed a lot.
MTV promises a new slate of surprise guests and stripped down, mainly acoustic renditions of Miley's biggest hits. Cyrus will feature new songs from her "Bangerz" album, including "We Can't Stop" and "Wrecking Ball."

MTV promises that the performance will "showcase a more intimate side of Cyrus." The networks released a short trailer for the Unplugged show that featured some of Miley's recent videos and performances. MTV also posted the ad on Instagram.

Amy Doyle, executive vp music and talent programming strategy for MTV said "The Unplugged stage has been home to some of the most iconic live performances of all time. Miley's vision for the performance is like nothing we've ever seen. I can say that this will easily be one of the most memorable Unplugged performances to date."

Unplugged was created by Robert Small and Jim Burns and debuted in 1989. Nirvana, Jay Z, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Tony Bennett, Mariah Carey, Katy Perry, Lil Wayne, Adele and Florence and the Machine have all appeared.
Miley won best artist of 2013. In October, MTV broadcast the "Miley: The Movement" documentary that shows Cyrus recording songs for the "Bangerz" album. Cyrus' Bangerz album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 and Digital Album charts in the U.S. It topped the iTunes chart in over 70 countries. Singles "We Can't Stop" and "Wrecking Ball" topped the charts worldwide.

After the unplugged special Miley will kick off her Bangerz tour on Valentine's Day in Vancouver. She said "Our whole tour is literally based on animals."
Ren & Stimpy creator John Kricfalusi designed "imaginative animals" for the show.

Alex Coletti will direct "Miley Cyrus: MTV Unplugged."
