Pitch Perfect 2 movie now has a director! Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley confirmed that Elizabeth Banks, who produced and co-star in the original film, will be coming back as its DIRECTOR!

According to Donna Langley, "Elizabeth originated the idea for Pitch Perfect and was instrumental in making the first film such as huge success."

The Universal Pictures chairman also added, "She brings an enormous amount of energy and experience to everything she works on and we're thrilled that she is making her feature directorial debut on Pitch Perfect 2."

The report was first confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter just a few hours ago.

Screenplay writer Kay Cannon, who also wrote the original film, will also write the screenplay for Pitch Perfect 2. THR also reported that Gold Circle Films' Paul Brooks will be producing the movie together with Max Handelman.

Scott Niemeyer of Gold Circle will be the executive producer and Cannon will be co-producing with Jeff Levine of Gold Circle.

Elizabeth Banks starred in the original Pitch Perfect movie as Gail Abernathy McKadden, the witty commentator for the ICCAs events.

It is not yet confirmed, however, whether Banks will still reprise her role as the Gail McKadden. However, THR also reported that two of the original casts will be returning for the sequel as well - Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson.

"Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson, who also starred in the original, are likely to return, according to insiders," THR reported.

Banks recently starred in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire film as Effie Trinket. The movie gathered more than $850 million worldwide. The actress will also voice Wyldstyle, one of the characters in The Lego Movie, which is set to be released this February 7.

The Pitch Perfect 2 movie will return next year. Official date of release is not yet confirmed.
