Scarlett Johansson Soda Stream Super Bowl Ad (Video); Censored to Cut Out Coke and Pepsi Taunts; Is This a Conspiracy?

Scarlett Johansson's Super Bowl ad for SodaStream was rejected because it taunted Pepsi and Coca Cola, the big two soda companies. Fox will air a censored version of the Scarlett Johansson Super Bowl SodaStream ad because, well, Pepsi is paying Fox for the halftime show and the Scarlett Johansson Super Bowl ad for SodaStream is just an ad.

Every year ads get cut from the Super Bowl. Scarlett Johansson's SodaStream ad is the second time in two years that SodaStream had its commercial rejected. Last year's SodaStream Super Bowl ad showed Coke and Pepsi being delivered and trucks and asked how many bottles could be saved if people used SodaStream. The company makes at-home soda maker machines.

The Scarlett Johansson SodaStream ad was rejected because it contained the words: "Sorry, Coke and Pepsi."  Coke and Pepsi are major Super Bowl advertisers. SodaStream has since recut the Scarlett Johansson commercial with a different ending.

Sodastream's CEO Daniel Birnbaum told USA Today that Fox rejected the ad "because they're afraid of Coke and Pepsi. This is the kind of stuff that happens in China. I'm disappointed as an American."

Birnbaum still hasn't gotten his money back for the airtime.

Pepsi is sponsoring the halftime show and Fox asked SodaStream to remove that last line.

Fox, Coca-Cola and Pepsi declined to comment.

Scarlett Johansson's SodaStream connection has been generating a lot of controversy. SodaStream is an Israeli company that makes products in a settlement built on West Bank territory Israel has occupied since 1967. Scarlett is its first global global brand ambassador. Johansson is also a supporter of Oxfam.
