‘Homeland’ Season 4 Spoilers: Mandy Patinkin Teases Brody’s Return, ‘Occasional Occurrence’ Possible?

"Homeland" season 4 won't have its star character Nicholas Brody, played by Damian Lewis - but now Mandy Patinkin reveals in a new spoiler that we may see Brody return "occasionally" in "Homeland" season 4!

"Homeland" fans were shocked when Brody was killed off in the season 3 finale. E! News caught up with Mandy Patinkin, who plays Saul in the HBO series, and asked him if he thought Brody would ever return for "Homeland" season 4.

"I would say so. I don't think it will be a regular occurrence, but I think it will be an emotional, occasional occurrence," Patinkin said in a spoiler.

However, "Homeland" creator Alex Gansa previously confirmed that Brody was killed in Tehran in the season 3 finale, and will not return to "Homeland" season 4 in the land of the living.

Why are Patinkin and Gansa saying completely different things? Could Brody's return be in the form of a dream of Carrie's, or in a flashback?

"I would say highly doubtful. But you never know," Gansa said cryptically to Entertainment Weekly.

In an interview with Variety, Gansa said: "Obviously Carrie is going to have to deal with the child. We never thought she was going to have a miscarriage or have an abortion. This child is how Brody spiritually remains in the show... The other idea running around our brains Is that it will be really interesting to see Carrie do what she was trained to do - be a case officer in a foreign country. That seems to us like a really interesting place to start to reinvent the show," Gansa said, referring to Claire Danes' character Carrie Mathison, and her CIA promotion to Istanbul, Turkey.

"Homeland" season 4 returns to HBO fall 2014.
