Brooklyn Nets Andray Blatche Says He Is A Filipino And Is Willing To Play For The Country’s National Team

Andray Blatche of the Brooklyn Nets has returned to action after being suspended for four games for 'personal reasons' to continue his stellar season. With his improved game, Blatche has earned a solid spot in Coach Jason Kidd's rotation. He is a solid contributor for the New York state squad. With that said, will he be invited for the USA Team? The answer is no. One reason, the 28-man roster for the USA Basketball National team has been announced and he is not found on the list.

Well, it seems he doesn't mind being left out of the US National Team because he can play somewhere else, like the Philippines.

On January 30, Andrew Keh of the New York Times reported that Blatche, who scored 17 points with four rebounds, two steals and two blocks in a pell-mell victory in Boston, has claimed that he is a Filipino.

Andray Blatche, who asked us to call him Young Seymour, said he is half Filipino, which may not be true.-

Of course, this isn't true. Blatche has been known for saying words that he doesn't really think about. He is also known for getting into so many troubles during his stint with Washington Wizards. His parents are both Americans. He just said that he is an Asian after learning that the Philippine National Basketball Team called Gilas Pilipinas, is interested in him, along with former teammate JaVale McGee, as naturalized player for the FIBA World Cup.

"Naturalizing McGee and Blatche will strengthen the Philippines' chances in reclaiming its dream as one of the world's basketball greats during the FIBA World Cup," said Deputy Speaker Robbie Puno, a congressman from the Philippines who authored the bill to naturalize the two NBA players.

Well, if Blatche and McGee get to play for the Philippines, the Southeast Asian country will be one of the most exciting to watch in the World Cup of Basketball. Who doesn't want to see loud mouth Blatche and human lowlight reel McGee play at the same time?
