Channing Tatum as Gambit: X-Men Producer 'Dying' To Make Gambit Solo Film Featuring '21 Jumpstreet' Star

Channing Tatum is one of the fastest rising stars in Hollywood today. Most studios would like to cast him. When he mentions that he wants to play a character in your studio, the response should be predictable.

A little refresher on the comment that started the whole brouhaha: In a press conference with Jamie Foxx and Channing Tatum last year to promote their movie, "White House Down," the topic of superhero movies came up (due to Jamie Foxx's forthcoming Electro role in "The Amazing Spider Man 2"). The transcript form Collider:

"I would like to play Gambit. Gambit's my favourite. I'm from New Orleans, around that area. My dad's from New Orleans, and I like to do a Cajun accent. I could do it for real. No knock on Taylor Kitsch, though, 'cause I actually like his Gambit, but I've always lived around Cajun people. Gambit was always like the woman-loving, cigarette-smoking, drinking guy. He was the punk rock of all the superheroes. He's a thief. He kind of rode the line."

Taylor Kitsch played Gambit in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" which was all over the place, to say the least. Kitsch was not bad, but Fox wishes everyone can just forget that movie. Re-introducing the characters can do the trick.

Meanwhile, "X-Men" movies producer Lauren Shuler Donner has mentioned has mentioned her vision for the character. The success of the new movie "The Wolverine" restored her faith in the solo super-hero outing. She spoke to Empire:

"I'm dying to do a Gambit movie with Channing Tatum. That doesn't have to be a great big movie. It's a thief in New Orleans, it's a whole different story. He's on board, and I have to get the studio on board. How can anyone resist Channing? He's such a sweetheart."

That's a smart perspective. Keep the movie small so it would not be high risk. Focus on Gambit's character as a thief, mysterious criminal and suave ladies man before worrying about integrating him to the X-Men Universe. Gambit, whose real name is Rémy Etienne LeBeau from Louisiana, has a story worth telling. Would Channing Tatum be up to the task?

Further developments on this project will be covered by Kpopstarz.com. In the meantime, the grand offering "X-Men: Days of Future Past" will be released on May 23, 2014.
