Woody Allen Sexual Abuse Scandal: Director Denies Allegations; Mia Farrow Blamed For 'False Memories'

Woody Allen's sexual abuse accusations have been resurrected. Through an open letter from his adopted daughter deliberately timed to disgrace him before the awards season ends, it is now the big issue in Hollywood. The cinematic genius denied the allegations again. Is this character assassination or justice delayed?

In a story reported yesterday, Dylan Farrow wrote an open letter that was published in the NY Times via Nicholas Kristof's blog. Now that the issue has been raised, it is time for Allen's response. On CNN, the statement issued by Allen's representative,  Leslee Dart.  She said: "Mr. Allen has read the article and found it untrue and disgraceful. He will be responding very soon. In the meantime, it is essential that your coverage make the following facts clear:

(1)At the time, a thorough investigation was conducted by court appointed independent experts. (2)The experts concluded there was no credible evidence of molestation; (3)that Dylan Farrow had an inability to distinguish between fantasy and reality; (4) and that Dylan Farrow had likely been coached by her mother Mia Farrow. (5) No charges were ever filed."

Those were significant points that may lead many to dismiss the accusations as rants from a spurned lover. The sexual abuse allegations arose (from CNN): "..in the wake of an affair between Allen and Soon-Yi Previn -- Mia Farrow's adopted daughter with composer Andre Previn." Allen was subjected to public indignation, and the added accusation should have destroyed the acclaimed filmmaker's integrity.

Was that the purpose of the allegations? According to Allen's attorney's statement last Sunday (from Time):

"It is tragic that after 20 years a story engineered by a vengeful lover resurfaces after it was fully vetted and rejected by independent authorities. The one to blame for Dylan's distress is neither Dylan nor Woody Allen."

If it's not Dylan or Woody Allen, who are they referring to?

The counter-allegation that Mia Farrow manipulated Dylan to testify about the sexual abuse, as the account was videotaped my Mia herself. The equally controversial article by Robert Weide in The Daily Beast which vehemently defends Woody brings up numerous points about the allegations.  The most significant point in relation to Dylan Farrow's testimony:

"On April 20, 1993, a sworn statement was entered into evidence by Dr. John M. Leventhal, who headed the Yale-New Haven Hospital investigative team looking into the abuse charges. An article from the New York Times dated May 4, 1993, includes some interesting excerpts of their findings. As to why the team felt the charges didn't hold water, Leventhal states: "We had two hypotheses: one, that these were statements made by an emotionally disturbed child and then became fixed in her mind. And the other hypothesis was that she was coached or influenced by her mother. We did not come to a firm conclusion. We think that it was probably a combination."
