"24: Live Another Day" starring Kiefer Sutherland as Jack Bauer surprised fans of the hit breakthrough series with a sneak peek of what to expect for the next run of the television show during the Super Bowl.

According to E! News, the 12-episode event series of "24: Live Another Day" will premiere on May 5, with veteran actor Kiefer Sutherland reprising his role as Jack Bauer.

The new series, "24: Live Another Day," will start off from where the series finale ended with Jack Bauer in London, still on the run from the CIA, and still on the mission to save the world. E!reported that Chloe (played by Mary Lynn Rajskub) will be back and sporting a much edgier look to match her new persona as "anti-government."

Kiefer Sutherland in an interview with the news site said that Jack Bauer was smoked out of hiding because of an imminent attack from a terrorist cell.

He explained: "The President of the United States is going to London to have a summit meeting with the Prime Minister of Great Britain and Jack Bauer has intercepted some intelligence that something very bad is going to happen and he resurfaces."

For her part, Mary Lynn Rajskub said that they tried to introduce in "24: Live Another Day" some new elements into the successful template that made "24" one of the most watched series since its debut in 2001.

"When you find Chloe, she's just somewhere we've never seen her before," she toldE! "She's in a bad, bad spot...I've gone anti-government and when Jack and I are finally reunited, we're not seeing eye-to-eye and he's being hunted by a CIA agent."

According to MailOnline, the series was nominated 73 times and won outstanding drama in the Emmys in 2006. Kiefer Sutherland was also adjudged as the outstanding lead actor.

The news site reported that a spinoff feature film was planned between sixth and seventh seasons but the plan never materialized.
