Nokia Normandy Specs, Release Date: Rumored Android Handset W/ 4-inch Touchscreen Gets Cert. In Indonesia & Malaysia; Feb. 24 Launch At MWC 2014 Expected

Nokia Normandy specs, release date: The rumored Android running Nokia Normandy maybe nearing a launch very soon, based on a leak that the upcoming unit also known as Nokia X has been certified in Indonesia and Malaysia. Speculations suggest that Nokia may launch this device on February 24 during its press conference at the Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona, Spain.

Citing numerous sources, Phone Arena reports that a Nokia device with model number RM-980 has passed through Malaysia’s certification body, not long after the gadget news site received reports that it has gone through an equivalent Indonesian agency. The Nokia device is expected to be the Nokia X.

According to Phone Arena, the RM-980 code does not mean much. However, the exact nickname has appeared to be one that was caught making a pass through Rightware’s BrowserMark benchmarking suite not long ago. The RM-980 was also spotted making use of Chrome for mobile, a browser that is not available for Windows Phone 8 mobile OS. The sighting is the closest confirmation that the Nokia RM-980 is powered by Android.

With the upcoming Mobile World Congress, the rumors on Nokia Normandy or Nokia X’s unveiling is at its fever pitch. As to how much an Android device it can be remains to be unknown, but based on Phone Arena’s information gathering, it’ll be a highly customized fork of the open-sourced OS without access to Google’s Play services framework.
