NBA 2014 Free Agents: Luol Deng Says Cavaliers Are Still An Ugly Mess! Will Former Bull Eventually Return To Chicago?

The NBA 2014 Free Agents are seeking greener pastures, and they always seem to be on the other side of the fence. Luol Deng finds out how wrong that is, and perhaps there should be more to consider than money.

And maybe, he also realized that Lebron James is not such a bad guy after all. Luol Deng spent his entire career with the Chicago Bulls, and the last couple of years under a guy who is probably the best coach in the NBA. Prior to that, Deng spent his lone college year in Duke, under Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski, or Coach K. Both coaches are known for implementing discipline, effort and team play. Thibs is part of Coach K's Team USA staff (too bad Deng can't be a part of that). They played a big part in whipping the wayward program of Team USA basketball into the indestructible shape it has now.

As a seasoned pro who worked under these two greats, Deng gracefully accepted the trade. However, nothing could prepare him from the madhouse also known as the Cleveland Cavaliers locker room!

From Mitch Lawrence of the NY Daily News:

"As Deng recently told one close friend, 'the stuff going on in practice would never be tolerated by the coaching staff or the front office back in Chicago. It's a mess.'

There is no accountability, as Dion Waiters found out when he was kicked out of practice last week but still got his usual minutes against the Knicks. Brown isn't getting much help from GM Chris Grant, who is expected to be fired at season's end because of the losing and problems in the locker room.

The Cavs were supposed to challenge for a playoff spot, but not to worry. All the losing isn't keeping them from having a good time. During their trip to New York, several players enjoyed themselves immensely the night before the game against the Knicks, partying into the wee hours with J.R. Smith, Iman Shumpert and 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick, and other NFL players. Their late-night/early morning carousing played a factor when they didn't even try in their blow-out loss to the Knicks."

Since he's missing the Bulls, and he will become a free agent, why not return to Chicago? The Bulls have a void at small forward and they will shoot for Lebron James or Carmelo Anthony since the top small forwards in the draft are all in the Top 5. But the chances of those stars leaving their star cradles, shunning a five year contract to play under a disciplinarian Tom Thobodeau with an oft injured running mate are getting slimmer. The next small forward after those two-Luol Deng(don't even start with Rudy Gay).

They asked Deng about that. In the Chicago Sun Times, his response: ''I don't know.  Maybe they'll offer me three years, $30 million. That might be an option to take.'' (A sarcastic take on the offer the Bulls extended to him, which he did not accept, resulting in the trade)

Serious answer: ''I can't say.  There's no bad blood or anything. For me to sit here and say I'm taking Chicago out of the equation, that's stupid. I was there for 10 years."

How much can he actually get? He laments how the Bulls could not offer him a five year extension as teams can only offer that to two players (Rose and Noah). Would he be willing to spend five years with the Cavs assuming they offer him that?
