Avalanche coach Patrick Roy took a huge risk when he pulled goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere with 2:30 left in regulation last night. Former Ranger P.A. Parenteau scored the tying goal with 1:47 left, then the Avs won in OT, giving the team its fifth straight win.

"Who said we have to pull the goalie with one minute in the game?" Roy asked. "I thought that was the right time and I thought we started generating more offense. I thought they were tired and it was a great window of opportunity there."

Meanwhile, the Rangers continue to play great. They have won their last three games and eight of their last 12. But there's only a few games left before the nearly three-week Olympic break.

"We have to make sure that we are all focused in on the three games in four nights, the three games before the Olympic break," Rangers coach Alain Vigneault told Blueshirts United on Monday. "We have to make sure we continue to play the good hockey we have been. I am expecting our veteran guys and core guys to make sure everybody understands what we need to do here."

New York forward Brad Richards knows this is going to be tough and doesn't want the team to look forward to the Olympics that takes place every four years.

"Mentally we're going to have to bear down, take it as a challenge because in the month of January we were one of the hottest teams in the league," Brad Richards, who ended a five-game goal drought, told the team's official website. "There is responsibility that comes with that success."
