NBA Trade Rumors: Kyrie Irving On Trade Block? Cavs GM Fired! Replacement Has No Attachment To Current Players! Will 'Uncle Drew' Get His Secret Wish?

The Cleveland Cavaliers is a franchise in turmoil. That might be an understatement as the Cavs are always around NBA Trade Rumors. Now, the GM has been fired, and all bets are off on the team’s roster. Will the changes include their All-Star, Kyrie Irving?
The news broke out and was reported by several hoops sites through Twitter:

Then, full reports were posted after confirmation, including one from Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders:

“The Cleveland Cavaliers decided to fire general manager Chris Grant today, which was somewhat of a surprise due to the timing of the move but not shocking at all given their struggles. David Griffin, the team’s vice president of basketball operations, will serve as the interim GM. Now that Grant has been fired, what’s next for the Cavaliers? The timing of the move – two weeks before the trade deadline – suggests that changes could be coming in Cleveland. A new general manager won’t have any attachment to the players that Grant brought in to Cleveland. That means the Cavs could be shaking up their roster very soon.” The last line was very ominous.

Cleveland had high hopes this season, wanting to go deep into the playoffs. They did not think about tanking, they just had the first overall bust—or pick. They even gambled on Andrew Bynum, as the center might give them even a few minutes of low post presence. All these situations turned sour and coupled with locker room troubles, this was a disaster for the Cavs. The only silver lining for them was they were able to flip Andrew Bynum for Luol Deng. But the chance of Deng staying in Cleveland is very slim, to say the least.

The initial reaction is that Kyrie is safe. From Basketball Insiders again: “Really, the only player who has any reason to feel secure is Irving. Irving is the face of the franchise and also one of the best young point guards in the game. The next GM has to win him over immediately and cultivate a winning culture around him.”

Is that really the case? Despite the denials, the rumble persists that Kyrie Irving wants to leave Cleveland. He was asked on whether he would sign a maximum contract extension with the Cavs if they offered—Kyrie did not say “yes.” The contract in question was similar to what John Wall received this summer from the Wizards. He will never be paid any higher than that. Why wouldn’t he sign it? Kyrie Irving will start the All-Star Game. His trade value is as high as ever before. Next year, with Rajon Rondo, possibly Derrick Rose and Deron Williams at full strength, that might not be the case. The flaws of his game are slowly unraveling. Even the fans of the Cavs notice.

Will the new GM see what the fans want him to see? Will he act decisively on this matter? Stay tuned.
