Sochi Plane Hijacked: Emergency Landing In Turkey, Alleged Hijacked Claims Has Bomb, Wanted Plane Rerouted From Istanbul To Home Of Winter Olympics

Sochi plane hijacked as a passenger reportedly claimed there was a bomb on board, according to Turkish officials.

The Turkish officials said that it was a Ukrainian airline that held 110 passengers on board. This alleged passenger tried to hijack the plane that was on its way to Istanbul, but demanded it head toward the opening ceremony for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

The same Turkish official told reporters that the alleged hijacker said he has a bomb on board and try to divert an Istanbul-bound plane to Sochi, but the plane made an emergency landing in Turkey.

Habib Soluk, the Transport Ministry undersecretary, told private NTV television Friday that the plane from Kharkov, Ukraine, to Istanbul, landed safely at Sabiha Gokcen airport.

The hijacker allegedly was trying to make his way to the cockpit while carrying a detonator to a bomb he said was on board.

The latest update said that authorities are trying to force the hijacker to give himself up, but one Russian reporter said that the hijacker has been "neutralized."

News reports said the plan was a Pegasus Airlines flight. A spokeswoman for the airline declined comment, according to CBC.
