Windows Phone 8.1 Release For Developers Is Today, Try Out The Platform's New Features At Your Own Risk

Windows Phone 8.1: A couple of weeks ago, Microsoft finally took the wraps off of its Windows Phone 8.1 update, which most people consider a great leap for the Redmond giant's mobile OS.

But while the official update will not roll out to Windows Phone OS powered devices until the next couple of months, a number of device and software enthusiasts can already have a taste of the new update.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the WIndows Phone 8.1 update can now be downloaded by app developers and partners of Microsoft. However, for those who cannot wait for the official date, you may also get the privilege of trying it out before it is actually released in the public.

In the report, you can pay Microsoft $19 and register as an official developer. On the other hand, you may also register via the company's App Studio, which grants you 'developer status' absolutely free.

Once you have gained this status, you can now download and install the update through the Internet.

In case you have missed the Windows Phone 8.1 update launch two weeks ago, it featured the platform's first real notification center, customizable Start screen setup, a super fast and Guiness record-bearing on screen keypad, and the voice assistant Cortana.

In the report's comments section, you may change your phone's location to US in order to include Cortana in the installation. However, we cannot assure you that it will work for you.

In addition, expect some bugs and errors when running and using this developer edition. As the initial release of Windows Phone 8.1, we don't expect it to be perfect right away. Besides, that is the reason why only developers are allowed to have access to the update for now.

Alternatively, consumers can also wait for new devices which run on the Windows Phone 8.1 update such as the Lumia 930, 630 and Samsung's ATIV SE phone.
