NVIDIA Tegra K1 Release Date: Octa-Core Processor & Deemed World’s Fastest Chip Will Appear In Mobile Devices Soon? Co. Says Smartphones W/ Tech To Come 2H 2014

NVIDIA Tegra K1 release date: The world’s fastest chipset, with an octa-core processor, NVIDIA Tegra K1 is set to be integrated in mobile devices very soon. The chip is said to actually come in two variants, the 32-bit version with a 4+1 ARM Cortex A15 configuration and the 64-bit version using dual NVIDIA-designed Denver CPU cores, the Motley Fool reports. Now that the specs and speed of the chipset has been unveiled, the next step is to see them in mobile handsets.

According to NVIDIA, devices with the 64-bit Denver Tegra K1 would hit the market during the second half of 2014. Speaking with its investors, the company said that the devices using the chip would roll out in the first half of 2014. Now that it’s already April and with no announcement or launch schedules in sight, we can probably the last 2 months of this quarter to hear from the company.

At NVIDIA’s GPU Technology Conference, the company announced a development board based on the 32-bit Tegra K1 known as Jetson K1. The platform designed for embedded system features a Tegra K1 chip, 2 GB memory, 16GB of flash, and various connectors. It is available for pre-order now and shipments for it is reported to begin next month.

Though the NVIDIA Tegra K1 has yet to be seen in mobile handsets, the Motley Fool noted that tablets are usually “hot” during back-to-school and Christmas shopping. Based on this, there’s no reason for panic why the Tegra K1 is yet to be seen in current designs available.

Motley Fool noted the next case for speculations for the Tegra K1 chipset, which is - who are the OEM that will adopt the technology? NVIDIA may not have a chance just yet to displaced Qualcomm in designs such as the Kindle Fire HDX and Samsung tablets. But high-resolution and gaming-oriented tablets maybe the best for the Tegra K1. In this measure, the upcoming Surface line of products of Microsoft could well be the sure carriers of this chipset.
