Basketball Hall Of Fame 2014 Will Be On August 8; Inductees Include David Stern, Mitch Richmond And Alonzo Mourning, Among Others

Basketball Hall Of Fame 2014: The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall Of Fame announced its 2014 Class of inductees who will be honored on August 8.

This year's prestigious event for basketball was announced in North Texas, which was the venue of the 2014 NCAA Final Four and was televised in CBS and NBA TV.

"It is an honor for us to welcome this highly-esteemed Class of 2014 into the Basketball Hall of Fame," said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. "Each inductee has made great strides in the sport and serves as an inspiration to many. We look forward to honoring each of these well-deserving members during the Enshrinement Ceremonies."

For an individual to be selected to be in the Hall of Fame, persons were to be voted and at least get 18 out of 24 votes from a committee of election.

"This 2014 class is a highly distinguished group of individuals who represent many decades and eras of basketball," said Jerry Colangelo, Chairman of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Board. "Each year, we follow the tradition of recognizing those who have been leaders in the game of basketball, and this is a special year with a remarkable group of inductees."

The 10 elected individuals that would join the 2014 Basketball Hall of Fame are The Immaculata University women's team, who was the first women's college team play on a televised game; Coaches Nolan Richardson, Gary Williams and Bob Leonard; Nat Clifton, Guy Rodgers and the first Lithuanian NBA Player, Sarunas Marciulionis.

Joining the rest of the group is recently retired NBA Commissioner, David Stern, who led the league for 30 years. He was basically the guy that molded as to how the NBA is like today.

"I'm most proud of the fact that when we began this journey with players as family, everyone said the NBA couldn't possibly make it because it had too many black players," Stern said. "And those very same players, they brought home the [Olympic] gold in Barcelona [in 1992]."

For bringing basketball and most importantly NBA on the top of the sports ladder worldwide, fans definitely agree that this timely election to he Basketball Hall Of Fame is just right for the former commissioner.

Joining Stern and the rest of the inductees is former Miami Heat standout Alonzo Mourning, who has led and guided the team for their 2006 NBA Crown was humbled by the recognition that he will be part of.

"When you think about it, it's the pinnacle of what we do as athletes," said Mourning, who played in the NBA from 1992-2008. "After winning a championship, OK, what is there left?

"After you've made money, after winning a championship, what is there left? The one thing that's left is being enshrined in your sport's Hall of Fame. That's forever. Nobody can ever take that away from you."

To complete the 10 inductees for the 2014 Basketball Hall of Fame is former Warriors, Kings and Lakers star Mitch Richmond. Richmond averaged 21 points a game for over 10 seasons and was part of the notorious run and gun group of Run TMC, which consists of Chris Mullin, who is already in the Hall of Fame, him and Tim Hardaway.
