‘The Hobbit: There And Back Again’ Wont Transpire? Peter Jackson’s Third Installment Changing Film Title To ‘Into The Fire’

The "Hobbit: There and Back Again" might not transpire at all as Peter Jackson is reportedly considering to change the title of the third installment to "Into the Fire."

The website OneRing.net reported that New Line studio registered a new title: "The Hobbit: Into the Fire" as an alternative to "The Hobbit: There and Back Again," the title used by fans, studio execs and PR firms alike over the past few months.

The website credited a "reliable source" it identified as "The Knocking Thursh" who fed the information.

This isn't the first time Peter Jackson and the studio changed things around,OneRing noted. The trilogy after all was meant only for two parts according to the names registered by New Line, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" and "The Hobbit: There and Back Again." That changed by July 2012.

Immediately thereafter, the studio reportedly registered two names: "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" and "The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies," dropping the "There and Back Again."

But in August 2012, the studio and cast have been using "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" in its press releases, which meant that "Battle of Five Armies" was dropped.

And now this.

OneRing reported that studios are aware of the importance of the brand so "it seems to defy logic that New Line ... would abandon a name that's built up a great deal of recognition among keen fans and casual moviegoers to the point where there's an acronym for it - TABA."

The website is also not ruling out a movie tie-in being planned by the studio which would make sense to also register "Into the Fire" for intellectual property rights purposes.

However, Total Film suggested that the new title registered by New Line might not mean anything to the established "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" as it could just be another entirely new project "such as a computer game."
