Tyson Ross beat the Giants for the first time in six career appearances by throwing eight scoreless innings to lead the San Diego Padres to a 2-1 victory Friday night.

"East Bay, man," Ross said. "That was a lot of fun. I grew up an A's fan, so that rivalry's definitely there. The Giants were the rival at heart for me growing up."

Tim Hudson (2-0, 2.35 ERA) has been solid so far, pitching into the eighth inning in all three outings. He gave up four runs over 7 1/3 on Sunday before Brandon Crawford's 10th-inning homer gave the Giants a 5-4 win over Colorado, according to ESPN.com. The right-hander, though, was charged with two runs in the eighth that tied it.

"I would have been sick if we had lost this game because I felt like I had a pretty good game, and then in the eighth inning we were tied up," Hudson told ESPN.com.

On the hill for San Diego will be Eric Stults. He is 0-2 with a 5.52 ERA. He has yet to get out of the fifth inning. In his last start, he went five innings and allowed three runs against the Avalanche. Prior to that, he allowed one run against the Indians.
