Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook Feud? OKC Thunder Loses Crucial Home Game Against Memphis! Is Westbrook To Blame?

Kevin Durant is not someone to fight with a teammate. However, for the sake of winning, maybe he should. Russell Westbrook took 28 shots in Game 2, and analysts believe that Durant should take over.

TNT analyst and former NBA superstar Charles Barkley will not keep his observations to himself, and this is what he saw (transcribed by News OK):

"You don't want your point guard shooting 30 times. Nobody else got in the flow. Kevin (Durant) tried to get in the game late, but he never got his rhythm. Russell has to understand that I'm the point guard. I've got to get other guys involved, especially KD, the second-best basketball player in the world. He's the guy who makes everything go."

Harsh words that could initiate discord to what was always believed to be a seamless tandem of Durant and Westbrook.

"The criticism of OKC for the last three or four years still goes. Too many jumpers and they are tough jumpers. You are just not going to win 'cause you don't live by jumpers, you die by jumpers."

Some might argue that the structure of the team is based on jumpers. OKC does not have a low post scorer like Zach Randolph on the other side (Memphis). Serge Ibaka is not a post operator, getting his points off rebounds and alley oops. Perkins is primarily for defense.

Thunder coach Scott Brooks, upon hearing Barkley's comments relayed by a courtside reporter:  "Who's listening to Charles anyway?"

Just about millions of basketball fans worldwide. Barkely is not alone in that assessment. Westbrook is a talent that's good enough to lead a team but clearly inferior to Durant, who is on his way to breaking the stranglehold of LeBron James on the MVP award. In the clutch, Westbrook is not always willing to defer to Durant, and his dilemma is that he will be blamed when they lose. Whereas, when Durant has the ball and they lose, most analysts would be forgiving.

But this was clearly the Grizzlies' game. FSOK Analyst Nancy Lieberman noted:

"You must swing that side to side and make multiple combinations of passes. It didn't happen as must as you'd hope for."

The series shifts to Memphis for Game 3.
