The anticipated showdown between "Captain America 3" and "Batman Vs Superman" might not take place after all. While both studios took a firm stance on the May 6, 2016 release date, a Marvel executive has admitted they are 'struggling.'

A reporter from Variety has tweeted a quote from Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn:

'Struggling' can mean many things. It could mean that they are struggling to make a better film because of the challenge or simply that it has thrown a wrench into what used to be a seamless operation. Marvel had already reserved the release date more than a year before "Batman Vs Superman" was moved.

Warner Bros. may have played their cards right this time. They would not challenge "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" or any Iron Man movie and they rightfully deduced that the unnamed Marvel movie scheduled for May 6, 2016 would either be a Thor or Captain America sequel-movies that they are confident to beat.

"Man of Steel" beat "Thor: The Dark World" last year (Box Office Mojo has "MOS" at 688 million to "TTDW" at 644 million although they were released in different seasons) and the idea that it's the two biggest superheroes would be enough to beat any Marvel movie aside from The Avengers. Movie rumor website Schmoes Know also made the conclusion that Marvel would blink. Their assessment:

"Most everyone in this world might be interested to see a movie with Batman and Superman sharing the same screen. No matter how good the movie turns out, opening weekend could be massive for the still untitled Man of Steel sequel. In the long run, I'm sure Marvel will have the better product but there is the 'geek curiosity factor' that might make BATMAN VS SUPERMAN the more enticing product to see in theatres opening weekend."

It is quite a surprise to think that Marvel would be the one to blink. They are the more established studio at this game and right now, "Captain America 2" has been exceeding expectations. (568 million worldwide gross in three weeks). It is best to take the statement for what it is. There is no official announcement that Cap would back down.
