George Clooney is really engaged and this was confirmed no less than his mom Nina Clooney as the former beauty queen expressed her fondness for British lawyer Amal Alamuddin.

In confirming to MailOnline that George Clooney is engaged, Nina said that she's "extremely happy" because "Amal's a lovely girl."

She added that both his son and George Clooney's fiancée Amal Alamuddin are equal footing intellectually speaking and more than anything else, the "Gravity" actor places that on high regard. In addition, he liked that the British barrister's world is very much different from Hollywood.

"We weren't at all surprised when they told us they were engaged, and we couldn't be happier for them," she said.

Nina also said that George Clooney's fiancée Amal Alamuddin is very different from the previous women that her son dated because she is brilliant and at the peak of her career. On top of that, "they also share a sense of fun, a sense of humor and they are both very caring people."

On April 28, the law firm of GeorgeClooney's fiancée Amal Alamuddin confirmed the engagement through a statement released by Reuters, which read:

"The barristers and staff of Doughty Street Chambers offer their best wishes and congratulations to Ms. Amal Alamuddin, a member of Chambers, and Mr. George Clooney on their engagement to be married."

The news about George Clooney being engaged came as a surprise to some quarters since he was quoted as saying that he will never marry again after his marriage to Talia Balsam ended in divorce, MailOnline said.

However, he dated Stacy Keibler, Elisabetta Canalis and Lisa Snowdon, which all ended in a split.

His sister Adelia Zeidler also said that George Clooney "will probably not get married" and will probably spend the rest of his life perfecting his craft rather than being tied down to a family, the website added.
