‘Olympus Has Fallen’ Sequel Tackles Death Of British Prime Minister; ‘London Has Fallen’ Brings Gerard Butler To Theaters in 2015

"Olympus Has Fallen" sequel will tackle the death of British Prime Minister and former agent Mike Banning finds himself in the thick of the action once again after saving the U.S. President. The "London Has Fallen" will bring Gerard Butler to theaters in 2015.

The right to distribute the "Olympus Has Fallen" sequel, which  was entitled "London Has Fallen," was acquired by Focus Features which set the release date on October 2, 2015.

According to Variety, "London Has Fallen" will go up against 20th Century Fox's "Frankenstein," which stars James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe. The latter is a retelling of Mary Shelley's horror novel about scientist Victor Frankenstein.

Gerald Butler has already committed to reprise his role as disgraced agent Mike Banning. The "300" actor will also executive produce the new film. It's not clear if Antoine Fuqua, the director of the first film, will come back to helm the "Olympus Has Fallen" sequel.

The script for "London Has Fallen" will be written by the original team of Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt and joined by Christian Gudegast, the publication said.

In "London Has Fallen," UK's premier city is attacked during the funeral of the Prime Minister of Britain, who died mysteriously, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The studio also did not reveal whether "Dark Knight Returns" star Aaron Eckhart will come back to play the U.S. President or Morgan Freeman as Allan Trumbell, the website added.

With at least $70 million in budget, "Olympus Has Fallen" opened to theaters on March 22, 2013 and grossed $160 at the worldwide box office. During that year, the movie almost had the same plot as "White House Down," which flopped at the box-office after only grossing at over $70 million against a $150 million budget.

"Olympus Has Fallen" was distributed by FilmDistrict, whose CEO Peter Schlessel was named head of Focus Features.
