The last time Kershaw pitched in a Major League game was on Opening Day in Australia. But despite not having pitched since then, Kershaw (2-0) looked strong. He scattered nine singles with nine strikeouts and no walks as the Dodgers ended a two-game losing skid, according to ESPN.com.

"It's just good to be back," Kershaw said. "Six weeks felt like a long time. I had fun and it's good to be back. It felt good tonight."

The left-hander allowed nine of the Nationals' 12 hits, but they were 2 for 10 with runners in scoring position and stranded 10 runners in the game.

"He was nasty," Washington catcher Jose Lobaton said of Kershaw. "He was right in the zone. He was throwing strikes, aggressive, big curveball."

Yasiel Puig will return to the lineup on Wednesday after he left last weeks' series against the Marlins. He ran into the fence and has been dealing with headaches.

"I feel good," Puig told the team's official website through an interpreter. "My head's not bothering me anymore. My head doesn't hurt like it did (on Monday)."
