"Spring Breakers" sequel is in the works and the seed of the story is already finished and it's going to be as controversial this time as the first. The question yet to be answered, however, is whether or not Selena Gomez, James Franco, Ashlee Benson and Vanessa Hudgens will reprise their roles.

"Spring Breakers" sequel will be written by "Trainspotting" author Irvine Welsh and reportedly be helmed by Jonus Akerlund, according to Screen Daily.

The second film will be tentatively called "Spring Breakers: The Second Coming," which is a play on words especially with the religious undertones of the Wild Bunch production. The plot revolves around the experience of the main cast as they are recruited into an extreme militant Christian sect.

The "Spring Breakers" sequel will not be a direct follow-up to the first film but will have some references to the original cast, Screen Daily added, quoting the Wild Bunch's Vincent Maraval.

As for James Franco, Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens or Ashlee Benson, it's not yet clear what role they will play or if they will ever be in the film at all. James Franco's character died in the first movie but apparently that wouldn't be a hindrance to the film's producers.

"When we were making the movie, there was talk of a prequel," James Franco told MTV.

As he explained, there's supposed to be a prequel version, or there's a version of Alien's friend or something."

Earlier this year, per HuffingtonPost report, Ashley Benson wrote on Twitter in answer to a question from Cosmopolitan account whether she will ever do a "Spring Breakers" sequel:

"@Cosmopolitan funny thing There's been talk about Doing a sequel. I think it can only be done once. It would be interesting #CosmoAshley," Ashley Benson wrote.

Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens and the rest of the cast, however, are still mum about the reported "Spring Breakers" sequel.
