Shailene Woodley Feminism Update: ‘The Fault In Our Stars’ Cast Member Insists Girl World Has Too Much ‘Jealousy, Comparison, And Envy’

Even if Shailene Woodley's feminism views have been making rounds for the past few weeks, the ‘Divergent' actress insists that what she is after is to have a equality between men and women. As much as possible, she tries to shy away from the word "feminism" thinking that the word itself has a bias.

"I think the idea of ‘raise women to power, take the men away from the power' is never going to work out because you need balance," she explained to Time magazine.
Her views might also be the reasons why the ‘Divergent' movie heroine has no problem in being in a relationship with a girl. Previously, she said that she would choose her partner base on her love and not on a person's gender.

The ‘Spectacular Now' actress likewise confesses that despite being a woman, she is in touch with her masculine side: "With myself, I'm very in touch with my masculine side. And I'm 50 per cent feminine and 50 per cent masculine, same as I think a lot of us are. Also I think that if men went down and women rose to power, that wouldn't work either. We have to have a fine balance."

More than feminism, what she wants to uphold is actually sisterhood because she isn't ignorant to the fact that girls oftentimes involve themselves in stealthy games: "I don't know how we as women expect men to respect us because we don't even seem to respect each other. There's so much jealousy, so much comparison and envy. And 'This girl did this to me and that girl did that to me.' And it's just so silly and heartbreaking in a way."

Although she has been in the entertainment industry since 13 years old, she tells Company magazine that "participating in the hoopla" is not really her thing: "I lead a fairly low-key life - I'm a beach girl and the idea of putting on a dress and heels when I could be on the beach just doesn't appeal to me!"

Woodley will be next seen on the film adaptation of John Green's novel, ‘The Fault in Our Stars', which will be released on June 4.
