One Direction's Liam Payne is recovering from a heart-wrenching break up from girlfriend Sophia Smith - by throwing a raging party on a rooftop in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The party got so crazy that it looks like Liam Payne even broke his phone!

"Most awkward tweet ever ... I broke my phone lost all contacts please text me if u have my number," Liam Payne wrote on his Twitter on May 9.

Liam Payne and his girlfriend Sophia Smith suffered from a break up recently and it seems like the One Direction singer is doing a good job of distracting himself from the split. According to The Examiner, Liam Payne and hs One Direction band mates threw a rooftop party in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on May 7. It was so wild that the police were called to shut down the rager.

Andre Duarte was one of the guests at the Fasano Hotel in the Ipanema section of Rio who called the police.

He told the Daily Mirror the party was still raging on at four in the morning.

"I'm so angry," Duarte said. "The noise has kept us awake all night. We can't sleep. This is absolutely ridiculous. We came downstairs in our pajamas to ask the hotel to stop the party. We called the police."

One Direction is currently on the South America leg of the One Direction "Where We Are" world tour 2014.

The Daily Mirror reported that after the police arrived the music was turned down (which sounded a lot like Bob Marley and other reggae hits), and the party eventually ended.

On May 2, Liam confirmed that he and girlfriend Sophia had broken up with his depressing Twitter posts:

"Can't be without you"

"Worse thing I ever did was let you go"

"No all I got left is the thought of you."

The tweets were so heart-breaking that the hashtag "#CheerUpLiam" started trending, thanks to One Direction fans trying to bring a smile to Liam's face.

"They were spending too much time apart and it's only going to get worse this year - the band going on a super long tour, her getting busier with university," a source said about the couple, according to The Hollywood Gossip.

"Too much long distance," the source added. "It was draining for the both of them and led to a lot of arguments. Liam was the one who chose to end it."

"There was no way to maintain the relationship," a second source said. "He had to do it as they would never see each other and he didn't think it was fair."
