`How I Met Your Dad’ Deadline Passes; CBS Drops HIMYM Sequel; How I Met Your Mother Sequel Can Be Shopped to Other Networks

How I Met Your Dad, the sequel to the hit series "How I Met Your Mother," has been set afloat. The pilot was supposed to star Greta Gerwig and Meg Ryan.

According to media reports, there were disagreements between the network and How I Met Your Dad producers on the show's direction.

In a surprising move, CBS recently announced a number of new series commissions, but How I Met Your Dad, the spinoff of "How I Met Your Mother,'' was not one of them.

According to CBS Executive Nina Tassler "things on the pilot didn't work out." "How I Met Your Mother" producers can now shop it elsewhere.

It was surprising because How I Met Your Mother' was a big hit and networks usually love franchising their success stories.

But Chairman of CBS Entertainment, Nina Tassler, confirmed today that CBS was not picking the show up.

The rights to How I Met Your Dad now go back to producer 20th Century Fox TV. According to reports, they plan to shop it elsewhere.

Tassler said "To say we loved this show and these producers is an understatement." The network head said she was "heartsick" it didn't work out.

Tassler cited elements of the pilot that CBS were unhappy with. CBS wanted to do a new version of the pilot. They did this before with The Big Bang Theory, which was delayed for a year after the  first pilot was called back for an overhaul, including cast replacements

Tassler said that "How I Met Your Mother"/"How I Met Your Dad" creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays didn't want to reshoot the pilot. CBS also retooled Numb3rs and this year's The McCarthys into hit series.

Tassler explained "We have an extraordinary track record of retooling shows. ... We tried to reach out and engage them about redoing the pilot, but that it's just not happening. You run into these kinds of issues. You hope they can resolve themselves. They haven't. I'm heartsick. It wasn't what they wanted to do."

CBS said that 20th Century Fox, Thomas and Bays are now free to shop How I Met Your Dad elsewhere.
