Harry Potter Spinoff ‘Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them’ Goes Head-To-Head With ‘The Hunger Games: The Mockingjay 2?’ Author JK Rowling Working On Daniel Radcliffe Starrer’s Play Adaptation

The "Harry Potter" spinoff "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" will go head-to-head with the "The Hunger Games: The Mockingjay 2" based on the release date of the two films. Author JK Rowling, meanwhile, is working on a play adaptation of the Daniel Radcliffe starrer.

The first installment of the "Harry Potter" spinoff "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" will open in theaters on November 18, 2016, and that's only two days before the "The Hunger Games: The Mockingjay 2" is set to release, JustJared.com reported.

Meanwhile, in a report by UK's Guardian, JK Rowling is reportedly discussing the possibility of bringing "Harry Potter" to West End.

However, the play adaptation would solely focus on the early years of Harry Potter as well as the story of his parents.

The publication said that the play adaptation further expanded the boy wizard's universe after the "Harry Potter" spinoff "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" and the Quidditch sports tournament.

The play adaptation will be directed by John Tiffany who helmed "The Glass Menagerie" while Jack Thorn, who penned "Let The Right One In," was also reportedly tapped by JK Rowling, MailOnline reported.

The Harry Potter spinoff "Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them" will get a much needed artistic boost as J.K. Rowling will screen write her own book. She might be choosing between Alfonso Cuarón and Terry Gilliam to helm the movie adaptation.

In the Harry Potter films, Steve Kloves wrote all the screenplays save for the "Order of the Phoenix," which was written by Michael Goldenberg.

JK Rowling's "direct involvement as the screenwriter, however, could make 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' a hit," wrote Leo Sun for Daily Finance.

He also said that JK Rowling has always admired Terry Gilliam and was "her first choice to direct 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone'" because of the overall dark tone of his works unlike Chris Columbus which are more or less "family-friendly."
