"Blade Runner 2" is all set with rumors swirling about the participation of "Star Wars: Episode VII" cast Harrison Ford, as Ridley Scott's sci-fi cult classic gets a sequel after more than 30 years.

The rumors were largely kickstarted after Alcon Entertainment released on Thursday a statement, quoting producers Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson, pumping up the "Blade Runner 2."

"We believe that Hampton Fancher and Michael Green have crafted with Ridley Scott an extraordinary sequel to one of the greatest films of all time. We would be honoured, and we are hopeful, that Harrison will be part of our project," the statement said.

However, Forbes.com  contributor Scott Mendelson noted that the statement was sort of an appeal for "Star Wars: Episode VII" cast Harrison Ford to come on board the film, which leads to two conclusions. "Doing casting negotiations out in the open is a terrible idea. And Harrison Ford really doesn't need to be doing 'Blade Runner 2,'" he wrote.

Another hitch to the 71-year-old actor doing "Blade Runner 2" was that he didn't particularly like the first one or working with Ridley Scott, for that matter. The original film also didn't do well in the box office even if it managed to earn a cult following over the years, Forbes added.

According to The Guardian, "Blade Runner 2" will be written by Hampton Fancher, who wrote the original film. Michael Green ("Green Lantern") will also help with the screenplay.

In the original film, "Star Wars: Episode VII" cast Harrison Ford played the character Rick Deckard, the "Blade Runner" who has to hunt down four replicants-referring to a band of android outlaws-who escaped to Earth from an intergalactic colony in an effort to extend their lifespans.

The film was based on the novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" Written by Philip K. Dick in 1968.
