NBA 2014 Draft: Zach Lavine Is Next Russell Westbrook? UCLA Star With Highest Vertical Leap Outstanding At Draft Combine!

The NBA 2014 Draft is fast approaching. It is the biggest NBA event after the Finals. It may also be the biggest event in the lives of some prospects. UCLA point guard Zach Lavine is treating it as such.

Lavine worked very hard to make an impression in the draft combine-an annual event attended by top agents and executives of teams. . While other players did not even attend, the 6-6 UCLA skipper did himself a favor by being the talk of the combine.

Bleacher Report reports: "Zach LaVine looked like the clear-cut standout of the group, from his play and shooting numbers to his measurements and athletic tests.

You couldn't miss him during drills-he actually ran with the point guards, where he was constantly reminding viewers of his near-6'6" size and 41.5-inch vertical leap.

He's got lottery upside, and after seeing it up close, I wouldn't be surprised if a general manager chose to chase it with a top-14 pick."

"When did you start thinking you were going to play only one year at college?

LaVine: 'I felt like my game had developed enough. My agent, Bill Duffy, grew up with my dad. At the end of the year he told me that it would be better to go into the NBA than stay in the situation I was in now. It wasn't a tough decision. Last season was a little frustrating for me. We didn't see eye to eye. I took a couple of days and then went right into training."

SI.com: Did UCLA try to convince you to come back?

LaVine: 'I made the decision on my own. I never involved them.'

SI.com: What do you hope teams see in you?

LaVine: 'I want them to know I can play the point guard position. They ask me, but when they see me play they will know that's part of my game. I have been playing it my whole life. I can see the floor and I can defend [the position]. I feel like I have the tools to be a very good defender at the next level. Me and Russell Westbrook compare in different ways. I think I play a little like Steph Curry. I'm not saying I'm them, just saying there are similarities. Jamal Crawford, too. We both have a lot of moves and can shoot.'

The Russell Westbrook comparison was inevitable. He's a high leaping point guard and also from UCLA. Except that he's taller and may have room to improve.

Definitely worth a lottery pick!
