Samsung Chairman Lee Kun Hee Transferred From Intensive Care Unit To Hospital Room

The ninth day has passed since Samsung Chairman Lee Kun Hee was admitted into the Samsung Medical Center in Seoul on May 10 after suffering from a heart attack late in the night.

Hospital officials transferred Lee from the intensive care unit to a VIP hospital room after agreeing that his condition has improved considerably.

"As we had explained last Sunday (May 18), chairman Lee's test results are stable and his condition has improved. The chairman has been moved to a hospital room on the 19th," stated an official from the Samsung Group Communications Team on May 20.

Lee was moved from the intensive care unit on the 3rd floor of the Samsung Medical Center to a VIP room on the 20th floor, according to the Korean publication Yonhap News.

Although Lee Kun Hee has been moved from the intensive care unit, medical officials reportedly stated that they would continue mild sedation treatment for the time being.

Due to the Samsung Chairman's age, medical professionals have agreed to focus on bringing the 72-year-old Lee's heart and brain to its best condition before attempting to get him back to a conscious state.

As Lee Kun Hee remains in the hospital, false reports and rumors regarding the chairman's health have been circulating. If these allegations continue, the Samsung group is reportedly planning to take legal action.

The group has already requested that one Korean news publication change the report they made, allegedly stating that Lee Kun Hee had passed away.

Korean news outlet MBC aired an episode of "Real Story" on May 20 about Lee Kun Hee's current health condition along with secrets of "the golden four minutes."

After suffering the heart attack, if blood does not circulate within four minutes, it is nearly impossible to prevent brain damage, according to Korean publication TV Daily.

The episode of "Real Story" reported that, despite the 11-minute distance from Lee Kun Hee's home to the hospital, medical professionals were able to keep this "golden time" by acting quickly.

"The stent procedure has finished successfully and the chairman continues to recover," stated Director Song Jae-hoon.
