NBA Draft 2014: Joel Embiid Will Be First Overall? Cleveland Favors The Raw Center With The Highest Upside! Is He Olajuwon Or Oden?

Joel Embiid is reportedly favored by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Draft of 2014. The center who just learned basketball is projected to become the next Olajuwon or the next Oden. Is he worth the risk?

From ESPN: "Sources also told ESPN.com that although Embiid is first on the organization's wish list, that doesn't mean that Cavs general manager David Griffin -- who had the interim tag lifted earlier this month -- isn't also considering Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker with the first pick."

Embiid is the early front-runner for the top pick as long as his back is OK. The team's medical personnel will get an in-depth look at him in the coming weeks.

A source with direct knowledge told ESPN's Andy Katz that Embiid's agent, Arn Tellem, still is going to decide whether he will send Embiid to Cleveland for a physical or interview. Tellem might try to direct Embiid to a certain franchise and not have him go through a physical or interview for any team but the team he wants Embiid to play for next season."

Embiid clocked in unremarkable averages of  11.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game in his only season as a freshman and missed both the Big 12 and NCAA tournament because of what Kansas deemed a stress fracture in his lower back.

He also did not attend last week's NBA combine in Chicago, which caused speculation regarding his health status. However, Tellem did not send Parker, either.

The Cavaliers picked first overall last year, too. They picked a small forward in Anthony Bennett. He had a rough start but eventually picked up later in the season.

If Embiid's development continues at the rapid pace it is now, he would become a dominant center in the league. However, as he is a raw talent, he needs to have the right coach and culture.
