Nexus 7 review, specs: The 7-inch Google Android tablet sports a Full HD display, 1.5GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM and is a huge favorite among small-screen Android tablets. But according to reports, the unit is currently facing a delay from its upgrade to Android 4.4.3 KitKat.

Other specs of the Nexus 7 include a single-core Adreno 320 GPU. The slab’s connectivity options are Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi. The device also has a gyroscope, accelerometer and digital compass.

Some reviewers described the Nexus 7’s screen as razor sharp and the text, when read from the tablet, comes across as particularly fine and easy to read. Besides other tablet screens, the high pixel density of the Google tablet stands out. CNET says that it also has one of the brightest tablet display around and the colors of the unit are more accurate and fuller compared with the Nexus 7 2012. The device’s contrast ration is also noticeably higher.

Responsiveness of the Nexus screen is speedy and you get a smooth ride when you use it to browse the web. In terms of battery life, the tablet is good for the whole day, giving security for users who aim to use the tablet for a workday schedule. Wi-Fi speeds are stable and there are no spotty connections identified within a safe distance.

When the Nexus 7 was tested, its 3DMark and GFXBench scores have blown away the competition in many respects. The memory of the unit is one of the highest in the industry, matching what the Sony Xperia Tablet Z and Google Nexus 10 can offer.

Nexus 7 is available in three variants: 16GB with Wi-Fi, 32GB with Wi-Fi, and 32GB with Wi-Fi, LTE and HSPA+. Prices for the units are $229, $269, and $349, respectively.

There have been rumors that an upcoming 8-inch tablet by Google dubbed the Nexus 8 may soon replace the Nexus 7.
