‘Gotham’ TV Series To Rival Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? Show's Trailer Previews The Origins Of DC Comics’ Villains?

"Gotham" TV series is seen as FOX Broadcasting's answer to ABC's Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." as the show previews the origins of DC comics' supervillains in the Batman story arc.

"No doubt a rival reply to Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the upcoming show Gotham will explore the most dangerous city in America (apart from Los Angeles, of course) through the (not yet spectacled) eyes of (not yet Commissioner) Jim Gordon," Will Preston writes for Movie Pilot.

"That's right. It's a show that's not about Batman, but about his ally in the force," he added.

The "Gotham" TV series is a prequel to when the hot-tempered billionaire puts on the bat suit. It tells the story of rookie detective James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) who, two weeks into the job, finds himself trying to be a father figure to the young Bruce Wayne, cleansing the department of corrupt cops and dealing with supervillains.

"Gotham is a story about the origins of the great DC Comics super-villains and how they came to be. Catwoman, The Riddler, Penguin, Poison Ivy. What made The Joker The Joker? How Scarecrow became Scarecrow," Bruno Heller said in the "Gotham" TV series teaser promo.

There are also a lot of emotions involved particularly between the relationship between James Gordon and the boy who would later become the Batman, and "how the two of them became friends, how the two of them became allies," Bruno Heller said.

The "Gotham" TV series trailer released by FOX also showed Catwoman, Penguin, The Riddler an Poison Ivy. Bruno Heller also said that The Joker will make an appearance later.

"I think what's cool about this take on Gotham is that you're seeing James in a way that you never really seen him before," "Gotham" TV series star Ben McKenzie said. "The murder of the Waynes is the metaphorical breakpoint that plunges Gotham along a downward spiral that will ultimately manifest into people putting on costumes and going out seeking vengeance and justice."
