Nexus 8 Release Date: Price Drop Of Nexus 7 A Hint That Highly Rumored 8-inch Tablet Is Coming Soon? All Speculations Lead To Google I/O On Unveiling Of Device

Nexus 8 release date: The price drop of the Nexus 7, with its 32GB variant being offered for $80 less, is being read as a hint that the highly rumored Nexus 8 may be unveiled very soon. Numerous speculations and rumors suggest that the highly anticipated device will be unveiled at the Google I/O conference on June 25.

In an earlier report by CNET, it says that the 8-inch next-gen Android tablet from Google may now be undergoing tests, which is the final step for a consumer launch. Thanks to a revelation from a prominent Chrome bug tracking website, the supposed “hint” of a future Nexus tablet is in line with rumors that the Nexus 8 may be unveiled on June 25 at the Google I/O conference.

CNET notes that according to the eagle-eyed observers of tech site Myce, they noticed details on Chromium, a Google site dedicated to tracking bugs in the Chrome browser. The site indicated that Google could be ironing out the wrinkles on a new tablet. Those who picked up Chromium with a fine-tooth comb, the site has been known to tip Google’s hand on a number of features, products and services.

The major tech site notes that there are actually very little concrete data revealed by the listing, but those who read between the lines see a nugget of information. At the very bottom of the page, one can see google/volantis/flounder under the builder fingerprint. The code name of “flounder” suggests that Google is testing a Nexus product, CNET reports.

The “flounder” was determined as a Nexus product by referencing previous codename for other devices. The Nexus 10 was known by its code name “manta” (meaning manta ray), while the Nexus 5 test was dubbed with the code “hammerhead.”

Assuming the pattern would last for at least a few years. We should look for the flounder to ultimately surface as a “tablet.” This is the time of the year where Nexus tablets are usually released. The Nexus 7 (2013) was made available July, and Nexus smartphones typically debut in the fall.

Breaking down the build fingerprint, Myce notes that Google was using software from May 6.

The Google I/O Conference will be held on June 25-26 and aside from the rumored Nexus 8, they are also expecting the launch of Android Wear-running Moto 360 in the event.
