Persona 5 Release Date Eludes E3 2014 Despite Persona 4 Arena Ultimax And Q Line-Up: Atlus Fans Question PS3 Format Over PS4 For Shin Megami Sequel

In addition to not unveiling a release date for Persona 5 at E3, some Atlus fans are also wondering about its PS3 format over the next generation PlayStation console.

At the 2014 E3, Atlus is not showing up empty-handed. Although Persona 5 remains mysteriously under wraps, titles such as Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Persona 4: Dancing All Night, and Persona Q are slated for the gaming convention. According to Examiner, Atlus also plans to show Abyss Odyssey and Citizens of Earth, two non-Persona titles.

But not having a release date is not the only thing being targeted for Persona 5. So far, Atlus seems content to keep the Shin Megami sequel strictly for the PS3 and off of PS4, a move that confuses many international fans.

"Why is Persona 5 a PlayStation 3 exclusive an entire year after the PlayStation 4 launch?" asked Ar1speedboy on Metro. "I know that the PS4 hasn’t done too well in Japan but they must realize that the West makes up a huge chunk of the Persona fanbase. Would it have hurt to make it on PlayStation 4 as well as PlayStation 3."

Reportedly, the PS4 has only half a million units sold in Japan, the primary market for Atlus. Thus, it remains unlikely that Persona 5 will be ported onto the PS4 once it receives a release date.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, the 2D fighting game, will also be a PS3 exclusive. It has a release date of August 28 in Japan, and will be released in North America sometime this fall.
