George R.R. Martin’s ‘Winds Of Winter’ Release Date Spells Pace For ‘Game Of Thrones?’ HBO Series May Catch Up With ‘Song Of Fire And Ice’

George R. R. Martin's "Winds of Winter" release date is still in limbo yet HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones" is quickly gaining pace to catch up with the events in "A Song of Fire and Ice."

The "Game of Thrones" will end fourth season Sunday night and the series is quickly catching up with the novels, MTV News reported.

"Only two more published books in the series exist, both of which could easily be combined over the next one and a half seasons," it said.

With George R. R. Martin's "Winds of Winter" release date still uncertain, "it's looking increasingly likely that 'Thrones' will outpace 'Ice and Fire.'"

This prompted the author to advocate that the cable network will extend the episodes from the current 10 to 12 or 13, similar to other HBO series.

As he told the New York Times: "I wish we had more episodes. I'd love to have 13 episodes. With 13 episodes, we could include smaller scenes that we had to cut, scenes that make the story deeper and richer."

The author, for instance, cited that the "Game of Thrones" couldn't dwell on the reason behind Sansa Stark and Arya's sibling rivalry early in the seasons.

However, MTV News said that even if it likes to, HBO couldn't extend the episode order due to "budgetary issues."

Editor Anne Lesley Groell said during a Q&A with fans published on Suduvu universe that although she has no idea about George R. R. Martin's "Winds of Winter" release date, she said that they hope "to have it reasonably soon."

"When I have a date, you will have a date," she said in reply to a fan who wanted to know the George R. R. Martin's "Winds of Winter" release date.

She also realized that seven books may not be enough because there are actually eight kingdoms in George R. R. Martin's world, "all having to do with who has annexed what when Aegon the Conqueror landed in Westeros."

"So, maybe eight books for Seven Kingdoms would be okay," Anne Groell added.
