Months after the arrival of the Xperia Z2, the rumor mill about the Sony Xperia Z3 release date and specs begins to churn.

According to a post on Gospel Herald, Sony Xperia Z3 release date might happen as soon as August or September of this year. The alleged Sony Xperia Z3 release date hints that the Japanese tech company is preparing for a market showdown with another tech giant, the iPhone maker.

Recent reports suggest that the iPhone 6 from Apple has a release date set for this fall.

In addition to grapevines about the Sony Xperia Z3 release date, the device's alleged specs are already circulating online.

According to Sony Xperia Z3 specs rumors, the smartphone might be equipped with a metal frame which is incredibly thin as described on The Epoch Times, citing DoomLord, a source of Know Your Mobile. Specifically, the metal frame will only be 7 mm thin, compared to Xperia Z2's frame which measures 8.2 mm in thinness.

Furthermore, citing a Chinese website, IT168, the Sony Xperia Z3 specs will also include a 2.7 GHz quad-core quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor. The rumored device will also be equipped with an Adreno 320 GPU with a clockspeed of 500 MHz, as well as 3 GB RAM.

However, the legitimacy of these Sony Xperia Z3 release date and specs rumors are questioned. According to Tech Radar, citing the post on Gospel Herald, the component of the smartphone "could very easily be fake."
