2014 NBA Free Agency Rumors & Predictions: Ray Allen Retiring? Shane Battier Bids Goodbye! NBA's Best Shooter Gives Up On Miami?

The season is over, and now the 2014 NBA Free Agency Rumors & Predictions take full center stage. Now, even the seemingly infallible Miami Heat are faced with issues. One of them concerns their savior from last year, Ray Allen.

Ray Allen is 38 years old and turning 39 this month. His intelligent play and deathly shooting stroke has made him overcome the limitations set by age. That's how he became a hero in last year's NBA Finals.

At this stage in his career, Allen does not want to play for anything less than a title. That was why he transferred to the Miami Heat from being part of the "Big Three" of the Boston Celtics. He does not have time to wait.

The other senior statesman of the Miami Heat, Shane Battier, has already laid down his plans to retire. In fact, he already secured a job beyond the NBA as an analyst for college basketball.

Battier shares his reasons for hanging up the jersey. From the Sun Sentinel:

"I've given all I can to the game. I can't give anymore. I'm OK."

During the Finals, it seems like the same sentiment can be applied to all his teammates except LeBron James.

Ray Allen was seated next to Battier, recently voted as the best teammate in the game (an award he convincingly deserves). While he was uncertain, there was also a resignation in his tone:

I've had a great career,'' he said. I'm content with what I've done. It's hard to think past this moment. One thing is for certain, to (decide to retire or not) on my terms is the most important thing. Whether that is me retiring, staying here or going somewhere else it will be on my terms. I've made it to this point and I felt great that I have the choice to make it for myself."

Allen, aka Jesus Shuttlesworth (from his character name in the Spike Lee movie "He Got Game") has probably given up on the Heat. This was the most lopsided Finals series ever, and the Heat could only get worse with Battier out. Unless they make changes, the Heat as currently constructed will not win an NBA title.

Will Allen transfer teams-like head out West? Allen is still getting jeers for ditching the Boston Celtics. His old pal Kevin Garnett has not talked to him. He also didn't get the heroes' welcome Boston gave to Garnett and Paul Pierce. He might not want to be a villain again.
