LG G3 Vs. Samsung Galaxy S5: A Battle Of The Heavyweights, Vying For The Android Crown

Since the new LG flagship was announced last month, the LG G3 vs. Samsung Galaxy S5 rivalry has already began. And nothing is more interesting than a sibling rivalry between two Korean mobile manufacturers.

Now that both companies have already unveiled their respective flagship phones, the question now is who will remain on top at the end of the day?

Samsung Galaxy S5

Announced during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February, the Galaxy S5 is everything we expect it to be - fast, powerful and uniquely designed - the third part came as a complete surprise though. Packing a 5.1-inch display, we still cannot see much of the difference in height when compared to the Galaxy S4, though performance-wise there is certainly a difference. Unfortunately, some consumers were expecting a 2K display (2560 x 1440) just like the ones the Korean manufacturer placed on the Galaxy Note Note Pro 12.2 at its unveiling at CES in Las Vegas.

Still the device packs some serious punch when it comes to specs, which include 2GB of RAM, the latest Snapdragon 801 chipset, and quad-core CPU running at 2.5GHz. The camera department has been beefed up as well, with its 16MP primary camera and 2MP front cam. Some cool features to entice some buyers include the fingerprint sensor, heartrate monitor for health purposes and the IP certification for water and dust resistance.

LG G3

Now, it is the LG G3's turn. Launched late in May, it has certainly lost in the 'first in the market' race against Samsung which could be bad for the Korean manufacturer. Fortunately, there were also a significant number of consumers who thought that the Galaxy S5's design is not good enough, and has decided to wait for a better phone. The LG G3 is indeed the better phone specwise, with its bigger 5.5-inch display with QHD resolution, and 3GB of RAM.

Like the Galaxy S5, the G3 also runs on Snapdragon 801 with a quad-core CPU. In the aesthetics department, the G3 is also way ahead of the S5 with its metallic finish on a polycarbonate body. Both devices use plastic, but the G3's is just gorgeous to look at and even touch.

Unfortunately, the LG G3 only has a 13MP primary camera as opposed to the S5's 16MP, which certainly does not sit well among camera phone fans.

Verdict

Both the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the LG G3 offer premium specs at premium prices. However, consumers should take into consideration the design factors of the S5, and the inferior camera of the G3. It is also worth noting that the Galaxy S5 is already available in over 100 markets worlwide, while the G3 is slated to be available internationally starting next month.
